How to Streamline Homework Delivery to Clients

Most CBT practices deliver homework in one of three ways: paper handed out at the end of session, PDF emailed afterwards, or a generic survey tool. Each one creates friction that costs you completion and costs you time.

Paper. The client carries it home, finds a place to write, brings it back. The form gets lost regularly. The handwriting is sometimes illegible. The data doesn’t aggregate across submissions.

Email PDF. The client downloads, prints, fills in by hand, scans or photographs, sends back. Most don’t bother with the scan-and-return step. The PDFs accumulate as messy attachments in your inbox.

Generic survey tools. Better than paper, but the forms aren’t tied to the case file. You’re managing two systems (the survey tool and your notes), and the data has to be manually copied or referenced between them.

The streamlined version is a homework delivery system tied directly to the case file.

You build the form once in a worksheet builder. Multi-select, sliders, short-text fields, voice notes via the phone’s speech-to-text. The form lives in the worksheet library and can be assigned to any client in seconds.

Sending homework is one click from the case file. The client opens the assignment from their portal home during a lunch break or on the bus. They tap, slide, dictate, submit. The submission arrives back in the case file with a timestamp.

The data aggregates. After three weeks, the case file shows the trend across all submissions. You can see at a glance which forms are getting filled in, when, and what the data is showing.

In my-cbt, the entire homework delivery flow happens in one place. Build the form once. Assign with one click. Client submits from their phone. Data lives in the case file alongside the session notes. The 30 minutes a week you’d otherwise spend chasing PDFs, scanning paper forms, or copying survey data into your notes is reclaimed.

The completion rate improvement is significant. Most therapists who shift from paper to a phone-based system see homework completion roughly double in the first month. The friction drop is the cause: a 90-second phone form gets done. A 30-minute paper form doesn’t.

For solo CBT practices, this is one of the higher-leverage administrative changes you can make. Set up the worksheet library once. Use it across all your cases. The savings compound across years and the clinical work improves at the same time.

How do you know it's right for you.
